Autonomous Software Maintenance Has Arrived

Autonomous Software Maintenance Has Arrived

Ry Walker and Sylvie O'Connor

Today is a significant milestone in Tembo's journey. We began as a managed Postgres service, and have evolved into an autonomous software maintenance company. It's a shift from managing database infrastructure to actively improving software. The new Tembo is a superhuman junior developer AI agent that maintains your software in a new way. This strategic pivot builds upon the success of our recent dba.ai experiment, and aligns with our vision for the future of software maintenance engineering.

The Aha Moment

We invested two years building Tembo Cloud: a Postgres platform used by over 15,000 developers, packed with 200+ powerful extensions and production tooling. But something bigger emerged when we prototyped a side project called dba.ai, which was a simple AI agent that fixed slow Postgres queries and submitted PRs.

We integrated the same agent with Sentry, and realized the immense potential of our design. A day after turning on that integration, our CTO Darren got a Sentry alert for a gnarly bug. He started writing a fix and just before pushing the PR, he realized that dba.ai generated a pull request to fix the bug 30 seconds after the alert went off, and beat him by 7 minutes. The best part? It was a better PR.

And that was the moment we knew:

Devs shouldn’t be fixing every Sentry error. AI can. And should.

Introducing the New Tembo

The new Tembo is a superhuman junior developer — an 10x engineer that is hyperfocused on maintaining your software with high-quality pull requests for:

  • Sentry alerts that rot in backlog
  • Slow queries that drag down prod
  • Flaky endpoints and gnarly bugs
  • Bad code that sneaks into production

It polls your database, reads your stack traces, analyzes your monitoring tools, understands your codebase, and turns noisy alerts into production-ready pull requests.

Our Mission: To generate high-quality pull requests for your team, reducing software maintenance burden, and allowing your engineers to focus on roadmap work with greater peace of mind.

Tembo Architecture Overview

Getting Started on Tembo

Tembo integrates with your stack and starts fixing alerts within minutes of onboarding. It currently supports:

  • Databases (Postgres, more coming)
  • Monitoring (New Relic, Sentry, more soon)
  • GitHub (for PR delivery)
  • Linear (for ticket context)

It's built for production use cases:

  • It plans the fix and shares it before shipping (human merge only)
  • It respects ticket lineage and developer workflows
  • It only sends high-quality PRs that are meant to be merged It heavily reduces alert noise instead of adding more

The future is autonomous engineering judgment — the kind you'd trust from a 10x junior dev who has been given visibility to every alert.
